What is CBT?

Introduction

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective and well-established type of psychotherapy used to treat a range of conditions including anxiety, depression, pain and insomnia. It has been proven to be equally as effective online as in person. CBT is based in the key ideas that:

â—‰  What we think and do affect the way we feel

â—‰  It is not the situation itself that bothers us but the meaning we give to those situations. This explains why two people experiencing the same event can react differently.

â—‰  Notice, challenge and change unhelpful thinking styles and behavioural patterns

â—‰  Focus on the here and now

â—‰  Identify and strongly define your goals for therapy to create a treatment tailored to your individual needs

â—‰  Identify and cut off vicious cycles that prevent you from achieving our goals

â—‰  Approach overwhelming problems in a more manageable way by breaking them down into smaller parts
